HELP

Hello everyone. So I live in Great Britain (I'm from Wales, and no I don't have a "British accent" My accent is a Welsh accent)

Can someone tell me how the school system works over in America (What age goes with what year group, how your school day goes etc what time do you start finish)

It would be much appreciated

Thanks guys

Naomi xo

It's dependant on your school system.

When I was in high school, our schedules were 7:50-2:50, with only four classes in the day. During second semester, we'd get a fresh set of classes. My parents however had the same seven classes year round at their school.

Theres four years in a high school. 9th Grade (freshman year) where you're 14/15 years old (I was 14). 10th grade (sophomore year) where you're 15/16. 11th grade (junior year) where you're 16/17. And finally 12th grade (senior year) where you're 18/18.

Prom and homecoming are super important dances too. Prom in the Spring (super formal, guys where tuxes, girls wear floor length dresses) which is a junior/senior thing. The only way underclass men like freshies and sophomores get to go is if they're invited. Homecoming which is on the Fall at the beginning of the year is for everyone. It's way more casual (girls wear shorter dresses, guys wear black slacks or khakis) but both dances are vital to an American teenager in high school O.o

I can spout off more if you need it but each school kind of varies in methods so I'll be inclined to talk about mine, my parents', or my boyfriend's. Plus I graduated three years ago and they've already changed shit about it XD

YES ITS DIFFERENT ALL OVER THE COUNTRY FOR SURE!!!

for instance at my school we had seven class every day starting at 7:45 and ending at 3:15 started in early august and end in mid may
It all really is determined by the location. Different places start and end in different months.
If you have any specifics questions you can ask and I'll answer.

I thought June was the socially accepted month for ending lol

@Call_Me_Godot
No i think it depends on the region because i know some places start in september but we start in May I live in MS so it might be a region thing idk lol?

I'm from VA and we pretty much always start in August and go till early June. Lol that's weird cos my parents are from Ohio and I think they started mid to late August too? I know they went to June at least. But like you said, regional stuff.

Hey! So I know in a bit behind on this, but I grew up in the south-eastern part of the country and had class from 8:45am - 3pm, but my sister now goes from 7:45am - 2:45pm. I'm adding to what many said... Ages are the same as well as freshman to senior. My school was on "block" schedule. This means that we only had four classes each day, about 1.5-2 hours long. We had two semesters to a year: fall and spring. Each semester had four different classes, leading to the right classes each year.
Yes, we had homecoming and prom, but prom wills really the only super important one and even then it was fairly typical to skip your junior year... It was mostly a senior thing. As far as homecoming, it was often seen as overrated and mostly only big for freshmen. I only went that one year, as did most.
school also typically ends late May or early June. And you get about 2 weeks off for Christmas and 3-4 for Easter, and one week for thanksgiving (which is a very important tradition based holiday for people to be with family).
let me know if you need any advice for college life ;p

I'm from California, so I'm sure it'll be different like the rest..

My school usually starts in the middle of August (August 10-13 usually) and then we end the year in the beginning of June. (June 1st-4th)
My school time starts at 7:30 in the morning and then we get out at 2:30 and we also have late start Wednesday's.. Which is from 8:30am to 2:30pm and we have six classes through-out the day. (You can also have a zero period which is 6:30am to 7:30 I believe)

Then there is four years in high school.. (Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior) @Call_Me_Godot said the age groups in that, I believe

Then how the day goes matters on your selected courses.

Out here we are required to have two years of Physical Education
Three Years of History (World, Government, American)
Three Years of Science (Zoology, Biology, Physics)
Four Years of English
Four Years of Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre Calculus)
Two Years of a language (My school offers French and Spanish)
Then a elective (Drama, Photography, Psychology, Ceramics, Design, ect)

I hope I helped out a bit.
