should you leave the fandom?
I don't necessarily think that having less interest in a particular interest means you should drop or leave something that you once were engulfed in. Life and tastes change, we have new and different experiences; this all plays a part in how we view the world.
What you liked 5 years ago is obviously different to what you like today. You might hate an album a band just released and fall in love with the next which might take a while to come out. You could feel a little disconnected because things have become busier, you don't have enough time to dedicate yourself to an interest etc etc.
It doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave a 'fandom' in this case. it's just a shift in personal being and well.. as much as I hate to admit it 'growing up'.
@stephanierose
true, but in some cases, it actuality helped! i loved one direction for about 3 years but not to long ago something happened and it just really effected me, but then i went to MAGCON, and everything is better. idk if anyone else feels the same was as i do. you do have some very strong points.
First, let me run through the symptoms of someone might wanting to leave a fandom:
(this list includes symptoms but not varying to...)
~not being interested as much
~not thinking about it like you used too
~not being on top of things like you used to
~liking another fandom more
~ or you just simply stopped feeling the urge to like your fandom like you used to
Now, i want to remind you of something that you might be experiencing (i just got out of this phase and I'm willing to help out other people that are struggling). When i was going through this, i was debating weather or not i should leave my old fandom for another. I don't know if this is a mental block or a real social-media-block, but i felt that once i left the fandom, there was no going back. But i feel that you know when the time is right to switch to another fandom or leave a fandom for good!
on my journey to find my new fandom, i have learned a few tricks!
1. Temporarily Moving
its okay to look into a new fandom and explore it wile your still into a different fandom. In fact, this is a great method into exploring new things. Just using one direction as an example, but your not going to enjoy being in one fandom for years in years! trust me! and, if you don't like the fandom that you explored, than you can go back to your old fandom! no problem! just one thing i don't advise is quickly jumping into a fandom. It is a 9 times out of 10 that that plan will back fire :/ .
2. If You Are Changing, Go For a Fandom That You Are Familiar With
changing might take some time, its not something that just happens over night. this step is really simple. if i were you, if you knew nothing about Justin Timberlake, then i would not be apart of that fandom. Now, if you knew a little bit about Miley, then thats a start!
Okay, thats not all the tips, but those are the two main ones. Now i will talk about the problems.
guys, i knew it was time for me to leave my fandom when i was getting depressed my their songs and old pictures. Once my band changed their look, i was heart broken! For months i would just listen to old songs and look at old pictures! IF THIS IS YOU, IT IS TIME TO CHANGE! i know it sounds scary, but don't worry, this might sound weird to you but this is what this forum is for, you can comment below of message me. i will always answer back ASAP! Remember, i have been through this, i just got out of this situation and i feel great! So, if you ever need advice on this topic, i have experience! Now, lets get back on track! Changing is scary, but its for the best.
Remember when you first started your fandom? how excited you were to learn everything about them? well, not that you already know everything, its getting kinda boring. THIS IS ANOTHER SIGN THAT YOU NEED TO CHANGE! This is very scary and sad to hear, but, the longer you wait, your most likely to get anxiety or a small case of depression (FROM MY EXPERIENCE! I AM NOT SPEAKING FROM ANYONE ELSE BUT MYSELF!). If you feel that this is happing to you, it really helped me out a lot by changing fandoms!
Well that is all I have to say right now. Comment below or message me if you are having simply issues and would like to share with outer people about your problems, or solutions to these problems. YOU COULD BE HELPING SOMEONE IN NEED OR HELPING YOURSELF! Do yourself a favor (and many other people) by telling us your stories!
